Advent Calendar Prequel

The first of Advent has passed and we are fast approaching Christmas itself.
What better way to count down to the „big day“ than by opening the doors of an Advent Calendar?
Now I can’t send you a piece of chocolate through the interwebs, but I still can give you a treat each day. 😉
Because – and you know this if you follow me on Twitter – I’ve been busy preparing

my very own Advent Calendar!

You might remember the one from last year, but the one this year will be a bit different.
Don’t get me wrong: I really like the stories I wrote for that one and it was fun to create them on the basis of a picture that was send to me. But I wanted to do/try something different and as DarkFairy and I picked up the idea for Your Picture – A Story (that you can still participate in if you like 😉 ) to write like that, I decided to do something else this time.

But what did I do?

I spent a couple of months thinking about what I wanted to do and at some point I ended up with this basic idea:

  • The Story follows three Characters
  • Each door is a Chapter for each Character
  • They are each on their own Journeys, looking for something
  • At the end – something I’m not going to tell you – should happen

With this I then drew up the twenty four numbers and drew circles, triangles and squares around them while trying to place them in order, so no Character would appear twice in a row.
Then it hit me: I had three Characters and twenty four days, which meant eight Chapters for each Character to go through their Journey.
But let’s be honest: Eight Chapters is a weird numbering.
So I re-drew the stuff and decided to add three days were there would be a Chapter for each Character, giving me two more Chapters to tell their Story. Of course through this the no-Character-appears-twice-in-a-row was pretty much annulled, but that’s okay.
The next step was then to create the Characters and see where their Journey would lead them and to be honest when I was about halfway finished, I did not think I’d meet the ending I had in mind.
But I knew some things about my characters:

  • One should be a Sorcerer
  • One a Warrior and
  • One should be something else
  • I wanted a Character that was one gender
  • I wanted one that was the other and
  • Then there should be the one that was neither

But I’ll talk a bit more about that later on, just let me tell you: Using a self-made gender-neutral pronoun can be quite tricky, but totally worth it.
I don’t really want to give too much away, regarding these three, as you should get to know them yourself, when the

Advent Calendar starts tomorrow.

But

how should you read it?

If you follow the principles of an Advent Calendar you’ll just read the story one door at a time, but you could read it with a twist.
As I said did I think up an order of appearance for the Characters, which means you can decide yourself whose Journey you want to follow. Though that means that you have to wait a couple of days until that part of the Story is picked up again. 😉
With each Chapter I’ll tell you when the Character will appear again, but you can also see it in the colour coding on the page for the complete Calendar (it’s explained there).
You just have to choose if you want to follow the Woodling Mina, the Stoneling Sasha or the human Damian. 😉

Long story short:

Every day the new door will open at 7:00 am UTC+1 and later on be linked in its respective door in the Advent Calendar.
You can receive a notification right away if you follow me here, on Facebook, Twitter or one of the other social media I’m at. Twitter and Facebook will also give you a chance to see my progress with the finishing touches on the Calendar (I still need to translate most of the Chapters into English…)
Well, I guess that’s about it.
Come back tomorrow and check out

Poison’s Advent Calendar!

See you around

The Weekend Guess #86

I’m in the middle of preparing my Advent Calendar, but I still present to you the eighty sixth instalment of the Weekend Guess and with it the last one for 2015.

Eine Gedankenblase mit dem Schriftzug "The Weekend Guess" auf blauem Grund und in einem braunen Rahmen

What is the Weekend Guess?

Up to three riddles formulated by me that are puns and wordplays on the answer itself I put on here for my readers to answer.

Why am I doing this?

For no apparent reason, just because I consider the idea to be funny.

What are the questions about?

Everything I can think of I guess, so far the things you had to figure out were song titles and bands, movies and books. Currently it’s random topics ranging from the stuff before and whatever I feel like asking about.

What is your part in this?

You can try to figure out my riddles and see if you can manage to get behind them and understand what I am describing.

What is in it for you?

So far: Nothing, but the knowledge that you managed to unlock one of my silly riddles.

Let’s start with the eighty sixth set of questions

I am looking for the name of this book:

An apprentice for a DEATHLY job that causes mayhem by not following the rules.

Leave your guesses in the comments below and I can see if my questions are too easy or to hard to figure out. I will give the correct answer with the next instalment.
Have fun figuring it out! 🙂

Solution for last weeks Weekend Guess:

Inu Yasha

Unfortunately no one tried guessing, so I can’t congratulate anyone. 🙁

As I said in the beginning: The Weekend Guess will take a break throughout December and will most likely return on the 10th of January.

So stay tuned and enjoy my Advent Calendar in the meantime. 😉

Re-Wri-Day: Supernatural Summary

Some time ago I got the chance to write for THE EXTREMIS REVIEW, but I only re-blogged the posts I wrote. So as I wanted to get a some distraction from the Advent Calendar, you get another one of these. 😉

ReWriDayWhat is the Re-Wri-Day?

Inspired by EdMooneyPhotography’s Re-Work-Wednesday and based on the fact that my writing style for this Blog has changed over the past years, I kind of created my own version of this.

But why the strange name and what does it mean?

I’m awful when it comes to puns and I couldn’t help myself but to turn re-write and Friday into one strange word: Re-Wri-Day. Sorry…
But in conclusion: These posts are supposed to be always published on a Friday, but not necessarily on every Friday, just the Fridays when I feel like editing an old post beforehand.

And what am I doing with this?

I am taking my old posts from the beginnings of writing this Blog or just former posts and read them again to see what things I can change or add. They wont necessarily be actually re-written, but some changes will be made.
In the Re-Wri-Day post I’ll also give you a couple of thoughts on why I had chosen the topic and stuff you might be interested in.

So, let’s have a look at the pages I changed: Supernatural Summary – Season 1, Season 2 and Season 3

Recently I decided that I want to have the Supernatural Summaries I wrote for The EXTREMIS REVIEWS completely on my Blog as well and not just as a re-blog, so I thought about it for a while. It’s fun to summarize and look into the different Seasons, but as I don’t get Feedback as to how often my posts are clicked I wanted to bring them home. Of course I will also leave a link to the existing post on the other page, but that goes without saying.
That said: I have not changed that much and basically just copy&pasted the posts. Though I did change the titles, removed the pictures Julian used, formatted the headlines and took out some spelling mistakes I found in a read through.
And I created a new Category for Supernatural posts: Supernatural.
Still, this way, I have those posts on here as well, in case anything happens to the other side. 😉
Now I just have to find all those broken links to the old re-blogs…

Fairy guessed it correctly again, congratulations! 🙂

PoiSonPaiNter goes Twitter – for real!

As you might remember did I create a Twitter account for the TimeLash with AnnaTao and Schmusi from the HGWAnime(, who are also known as CosMamas Tipps). In the TimeLash review I also told you that we decided to keep the account and continue posting stuff from different events or projects.
Well…as I started working on my Advent Calendar, I now stood before a problem:

  • I was the one tweeting most or calling for a Tweet, during the TimeLash weekend.
  • I had a lot of fun sharing random quotes and thoughts while editing „Warlords“ with Fairy
    and worst of all
  • I started to enjoy making random statuses(?) when I found a particular weird thing in my writings or research.

So what am I gonna do?

Do I spam the @[ASAP_Chronicles] account with random updates?
Or do I put them somewhere else?
Guess which one I spontaneously decided to do…

@poisonpainter

Go and check it out! If you don’t have or don’t want to use Twitter feel free to check out my Facebook-Page, as the Tweets will be posted there as well.
The language of the Tweets will switch between German and English, but I guess most of it will be in English.
Stay tuned and watch out for talkative birds! 😀

Obviously, DarkFairy remembered the phrase, it was her, who created it after all … 😉

Into the Autumn

During the last few months I received several tags by both DarkFairy and Fissel and I’ll try to get them done one after the other without boring you too much with them. As the days are getting darker and colder I decided to start with this one that was forwarded to me by Fairy.
The Tag – originally called Ab in den Herbst* – was created by Corly and like all Tags brings Rules with them:

  • Link your post below Corly’s Original-Tag
  • Say thank you for the nomination: Thanks Fairy!
  • Answer the questions
  • Tag more Bloggers and tell them

The Questions

Which books remind you of autumn? (Be it due to the cover or because they take place in autumn)

Honestly? I have no idea. I barely remember any covers – even though they might influence my decision to buy the book – or take notice of the Season’s within a book – as they barely play a role.
Corly included the German version of Suzanne Collins Mockingjay in her list and I have to admit, that I am not sure if the thingies are supposed to be flames (German subtitle: Flaming Wrath) or autumn leaves…
Thinking a bit more on it, I guess Der Königsschlüssel (The King’s Key) by Boris Koch reminds me a bit of autumn, too, due to the colour of the cover, but I don’t think it was hinted at in the story…
Story-wise I’d say Terry Pratchett’s Reaper Man reminds me of autumn, simply because DEATH is bringing in the corn…

What do you associate with autumn?

Colourful leaves/trees, rain and wind are the major associations I have with autumn, but there are also a couple of other things. The days are getting darker, all the stuff from the garden is harvested and there are a few things that are celebrated in this Season – and I don’t mean HalloweenSt. Martin’s Day was a huge thing when I was a kid – especially the lantern procession. By now the focus of the 11th November is more on the beginning of the carnival Season where we get the traditional Pfannkuchen from our bosses. Also in autumn are the change of the daylight saving time and the Eternity Sunday or Sunday of the Dead (Ewigkeitssonntag or Totensonntag) that I talked about back in 2013 over at the Fairytale Traveler. This year that day will be quite difficult….

What do you especially like about autumn?

I’m not really sure, but I guess I like that the weather now allows me to not feel guilty about staying in all day. 😉 And I really love passing by or driving through alleys full of colourful trees…oh and tramping through the fallen leaves and kicking them into the air is also great. 😀

What is your favourite Halloween-movie?

This thing is filed with difficult questions…
I guess my favourite Halloween-movie is Halloweentown and its sequels. They’re just so much fun… and of course Nightmare before Christmas, but you can never be sure if this movie fits into the category Halloween- or Christmas-movie 😉
[Author’s Note: I just re-read Fairy’s post after completing mine: I did not mean to copy these from you, but it’s not surprising to me that we picked the same movies. >_<]

Are you an autumn-child (meaning: Were you born in autumn)?

Nope, Winter is my Season. 😀

What do you say about the season autumn in general? Do you like autumn?

It depends, some days, especially when the sun shines and illuminates all those colourful leaves, autumn is awesome. On others when the fog is hanging low or it is raining, you just want to wrap a blanket around yourself and shut out the world, which isn’t an entirely bad thing, but sometimes it can drag you down and that’s not so great. But I generally like autumn as a season.

What kind of holiday destinations do you like most in autumn?

The majority of my travellings take place in summer, so the only times I am actually on tour in autumn is for concerts, maybe an MPS or things like last years trip on Halloween or this year the TimeLash. This also means that I barely use any vacation days in autumn anyway and therefore don’t have a destination – other than getting home, I guess. Though I do still want to actually participate in an American Halloween celebration or actually be able to follow some Irish traditions…

Are there animals that you associate with autumn?

Deer, I guess? And crows and brants and cranes probably, as those are the ones you mostly see either standing on the (empty) fields or noisily flying above you to their wintering grounds.

Your most beautiful autumn-picture? (Can be a private one)

Tough one again… I think most pictures that include colourful leaves are beautiful, so… (yes, I’m a big fan of colourful leaves…). I’m most fascinated by pictures that depict trees or forests throughout the Seasons, where they have like one picture for each Season. Those are great….

Do you have a special autumn experience?

Hmm…I guess you can count all those Halloween experiences I had so far into this, other than that…no idea…

Last thoughts

Okay, so this probably weren’t the most interesting answers to these question, but I still wanted to do it. I think it helps one to learn a bit more about oneself if you try thinking about certain things, you haven’t thought about before and tags like this one help with that.
As I don’t know whom to tag, I will skip that part of the rules. If you want to answer the questions anyway, because you think autumn is awesome or otherwise then go ahead and feel tagged! 😀
You can obviously use my translated questions or Corly’s original (German) ones.
Don’t slip on any fallen leaves. 😉
PoiSonPaiNter
* I obviously translated the rules and questions.
