Re-Wri-Day: Webcomics

As fifth part of the Nerd-Week you get another Re-Wri-Day, because as I recently did with my Supernatural Summaries, did I put my first post for THE EXTREMIS REVIEW about Webcomics directly on my Blog as well.

ReWriDayWhat is the Re-Wri-Day?

Inspired by EdMooneyPhotography’s Re-Work-Wednesday and based on the fact that my writing style for this Blog has changed over the past years, I kind of created my own version of this.

But why the strange name and what does it mean?

I’m awful when it comes to puns and I couldn’t help myself but to turn re-write and Friday into one strange word: Re-Wri-Day. Sorry…
But in conclusion: These posts are supposed to be always published on a Friday, but not necessarily on every Friday, just the Fridays when I feel like editing an old post beforehand.

And what am I doing with this?

I am taking my old posts from the beginnings of writing this Blog or just former posts and read them again to see what things I can change or add. They wont necessarily be actually re-written, but some changes will be made.
In the Re-Wri-Day post I’ll also give you a couple of thoughts on why I had chosen the topic and stuff you might be interested in.

So, let’s have a look at the page I changed: Webcomics

I really enjoyed writing this post, as it is one of my favourite topics to talk about. As I discovered more and more Webcomics throughout the year(s) I’ve decided that I want to pick this up as another series to introduce people to stuff I read.

For that I changed the original post a bit like giving it a different name and changing some of the lines.
I would have liked to include one of my favourite Nichtlustig-Comics as well, but I didn’t hear back from the Copyright-person, so I won’t include it here and only link to it. If anyone is interested: Nichtlustig just finished a successful Kickstarter campaign to animate the Comics as a Cartoon series. Congratulations for that!

Anyway, I still have to figure out how I want to present the upcoming Webcomics, but I guess we’ll see what I come up with, when I get around to put some more thought into it. 😉

Re-Wri-Day: Supernatural Summary

Some time ago I got the chance to write for THE EXTREMIS REVIEW, but I only re-blogged the posts I wrote. So as I wanted to get a some distraction from the Advent Calendar, you get another one of these. 😉

ReWriDayWhat is the Re-Wri-Day?

Inspired by EdMooneyPhotography’s Re-Work-Wednesday and based on the fact that my writing style for this Blog has changed over the past years, I kind of created my own version of this.

So, let’s have a look at the pages I changed: Supernatural Summary – Season 1, Season 2 and Season 3

Recently I decided that I want to have the Supernatural Summaries I wrote for The EXTREMIS REVIEWS completely on my Blog as well and not just as a re-blog, so I thought about it for a while. It’s fun to summarize and look into the different Seasons, but as I don’t get Feedback as to how often my posts are clicked I wanted to bring them home. Of course I will also leave a link to the existing post on the other page, but that goes without saying.
That said: I have not changed that much and basically just copy&pasted the posts. Though I did change the titles, removed the pictures Julian used, formatted the headlines and took out some spelling mistakes I found in a read through.
And I created a new Category for Supernatural posts: Supernatural.
Still, this way, I have those posts on here as well, in case anything happens to the other side. 😉
Now I just have to find all those broken links to the old re-blogs…

Re-Wri-Day: Travelling

While I wrote the post about Fernweh I decided that it was time to finally have a look at those two posts again.

ReWriDayWhat is the Re-Wri-Day?

So, let’s have a look at the pages I changed: Through a bit of Germany 2012 and 2013

When I recently had a look at my old travelogues again I was struck by the sheer masses of texts.
So I did the only thing possible and added more line breaks and a few headlines and rephrased some sentences.
I hope this way the logs are easier to read and to enjoy.
And as I won’t make a Re-Wri-Day for the Re-Wri-Day’s, because that would be silly, I’m just stating it here:
Thanks to DarkFairy this category now also has a logo. 🙂

Re-Wri-Day: About

After correcting a bunch of broken links, I finally started looking at this page again. Usually I use this to portray the change in posts, but I’ll make an exception from that this time.
What is the Re-Wri-Day?

So, let’s have a look at the page I changed: About
For quite some time now I’ve been unsatisfied with the page and now I finally knew how to change it.
It used to be a rather sloppy, semi-funny page, simply because I didn’t want to give that much away about myself.
But after Blogging for more than two years I found it had to change as well. It just wasn’t me any more, who had written those lines.
When I had given my biography blurb to The Extremis, I knew I wanted to use it for the page and made a draft to save it.
Now after months of not knowing what I want to do with that part and what I already had, I managed to turn it into something I can now identify myself with again.
Now the page is really about me. 😉

Re-Wri-Day: Weekend of Horrors

If you ever had a look at my archive you will notice that August is the month I posted the least so far. As there is no post in 2012 and only one in 2013 was I curious as to what it was. I thought it was my post for Wacken 2012, but was kind of surprised to find another post instead.
What is the Re-Wri-Day?

So, let’s have a look at the post I found: Weekend of Horrors 2011
The first thing I noticed in the post while skimming through it, was a weird phrasing for one of the pictures‘ caption. As I hit the Edit-button I soon started reading again, changing phrasings and adding headlines.
In the post I am telling two tales – one is a rephrasing of a Short Story that was read to us and the other of something that happened to us – and I didn’t like the way I wrote them. So I rephrased and highlighted them to turn them into actual tales.
On the one hand am I wondering if I should leave the old entries to be in the writing style I had at that time, but on the other hand do I not like what I wrote and simply have to change it, so I did it again for this post.
Anyway, I probably already arrived at the M’era Luna (where I still haven’t finished the review for 2013), which is my last festival this year.
I’m curious if there will be Daleks again. 🙂

P.S. This is a scheduled post so it might be that it doesn’t reach my Facebook, Tumblr or Google+ page.

Re-Wri-Day: At the Festival

As I am still trying to finally get the remaining festival reviews done (as you can see from the new To-Finish list on the right) and have already thought about doing what I did for the In Concert-Category for the festival reviews as well I can give you another Re-Wri-Day.
What is the Re-Wri-Day?
Inspired by EdMooneyPhotography’s Re-Work-Wednesday and based on the fact that my writing style for this Blog has changed over the past two years I kind of created my own version of this.
But why the strange name and what does it mean?

In the Re-Wri-Day post I’ll also give you a couple of thoughts on why I had chosen the topic and stuff you might be interested in.
So, let’s have a look at the posts in the Category: At the Festival
First of all I changed the category from simply „Festival“ to „At the Festival“ and modified the post titles accordingly.
Like I did for the concert-reviews I also added additional headlines between different paragraphs in the posts. The posts also got a couple of more line breaks and re-phrasings. There were just too many sentences starting with „But“ or „And“…
In the reviews for the Mittelalterlich Phantasie Spectaculum and my first two Wacken, I have now separated the different times I’ve been there a bit better and more understandable. However, I haven’t changed the title of the former to „At the Festival:“ as I don’t really see it as such, but it nevertheless fits the category. The ones for Wacken 2011, Wacken 2012 and the Metalfest 2012 were split a bit differently. Though it divided the days, it also now fits the different topics I’m talking about.
I hope these changes make the reviews now more understandable and I’ll write the new ones like that from the get-go.
Hopefully I will actually manage to do at least one of them before this years festival season starts at the end of the month…

Re-Wri-Day: In Concert

As I have just released my review of the Schandmaul concert I attended last week, I contemplated about the reviews I had published before. As already the name of the category it was put in bugged me I set off to use this in the Re-Wri-Day.
What is the Re-Wri-Day?
Inspired by EdMooneyPhotography’s Re-Work-Wednesday and based on the fact that my writing style for this Blog has changed over the past two years I kind of created my own version of this.
But why the strange name and what does it mean?

So, let’s have a look at the posts in the Category: In Concert
First of all I changed the category from simply „Concert“ to „In Concert“ and modified the post titles accordingly.
I also added additional headlines between different paragraphs in the posts.
In the summarized review for 2012 I made them simply the band name and place of the concert, whereas with the ones for Letzte Instanz and Avantasia I tried to use their song titles as puns (E.g. Journey to the Tempodrom as pun from Avantasia’s „Journey to Acadia„) or just tried to make any kind of remotely funny line, like in the ones for the Paganfest.
It feels like adding sub-headlines helps me to better place some of the information and nicely splits up the masses of words in a post.
I am pretty sure that the next big thing will be my festival reviews, as they are even larger and more confusing than those for the concerts – and I don’t like the category name either.

Re-Wri-Day: Taking the Bus

As I just ranted about another change regarding the city buses I’m taking every day, I thought I might as well feature the original rant in this weeks Re-Wri-Day as well.
What is the Re-Wri-Day?
Inspired by EdMooneyPhotography’s Re-Work-Wednesday and based on the fact that my writing style for this Blog has changed over the past two years I kind of created my own version of this.
But why the strange name and what does it mean?
I’m awful when it comes to puns and I couldn’t help myself but to turn re-write and Friday into one strange word: Re-Wri-Day. Sorry…
But in conclusion: These posts are supposed to be always published on a Friday, but not necessarily on every Friday, just the Fridays when I feel like editing an old post beforehand.

In the Re-Wri-Day post I’ll also give you a couple of thoughts on why I had chosen the topic and stuff you might be interested in.
So, let’s have a look at the first post regarding buses: On the Road: Taking the Bus
Right at the beginning of the Blog I had thought up the On the Road category as I was still driving between my place of study and my place of work on a regular basis. This however changed when the actual studying (attending lessons and such) part ended.
What now became my means of transport were the city buses and I had a couple of things to tell about them.
The post is pretty much a rant on what is good and what is bad about taking the bus, so with the re-write I tried to form a better structure for the post and even give it some headlines. I also re-phrased a couple of sentences that sounded quite awful. There even was one where I asked myself „What did the author want to tell us with this?„, which is kind of a remnant of my A-level days were we had to analyse and interpret a lot of stuff…
So basically I was unsatisfied with what I wrote in the original post and as I had new complaints on top of that I thought it fitting to ad the Re-Wri-Day this week as well.
And now I am off to see Schandmaul in Berlin. 🙂

Re-Wri-Day: Hello World

Inspired by EdMooneyPhotography’s Re-Work-Wednesday and based on the fact that my writing style for this Blog has changed over the past two years I kind of created my own version of this.
But why the strange name and what does it mean?
I’m awful when it comes to puns and I couldn’t help myself but to turn re-write and Friday into one strange word: Re-Wri-Day. Sorry…
But in conclusion: These posts are supposed to be always published on a Friday, but not necessarily on every Friday that comes from now on…just the Fridays when I feel like editing an old post…
And what am I doing with this?
I am taking my old posts from the beginnings of writing this Blog and read them again to see what things I can change or add. They wont necessarily be actually re-written, but some changes will be made.
In the Re-Wri-Day post I’ll also give you a couple of thoughts on why I had chosen the topic and stuff you might be interested in.
So, let’s start with the very first post: Hello World
As being new to Blogging I just thought about how I wanted to go about writing my first post.
And as a programmer (I just noticed that I kind of never mentioned that openly before…ups…) I couldn’t have done it any differently then by using the Hello World-Java Code.
Unfortunately WordPress doesn’t really like formatting code-fragments properly, so I am stuck with a weird version of it. (If anyone knows how to make spaces and tabs in such a display, let me know.)
The things I added in the post include mentioning of this Blog being written in my second language and the things that were first on this page being my writings. I thought those things should be cleared up.
As it goes by the same title I also had a look at the static start page and changed a couple of phrasings. I guess what I put there is more or less enough for a passerby to know what this Blog can offer. Guess I should have a look at the About page at some point as well…it is rather…cryptic…
And that’s about it for this post as well and it concludes a rare week of three updates.
I don’t think that will happen that often again.
I don’t want to spoil you. 😉
I’m curious how this whole re-writing will work out and what changes I’ll make to the posts I have…maybe I’ll even find a post or two that does not need to be „re-written“…but I doubt that. 😀
