An Offer you can’t refuse

The Archer motions for the Warrior and the Thief to put away axe and flint stones and speaks loudly: „We do not mean you harm!“
He then sets down his backpack and rummages through its content for a moment, while your companions hastily look around to see if anyone or anything is approaching. Finally rises up again, holding his hands high. Lying in his open palm are a few walnuts.
„These walnuts are from a mighty tree in my home village, far across the border. I collected them as a reminder of what I left behind, when last I rested under its branches. I give these as an offering to you, to guide us out of the Forest and tell us where to find the Midnight Moonflowers“, he explains loudly.
„Of course they’ll accept some tiny walnuts as an offering…“ The Thief scoffs sarcastically.
Everything is silent for a moment and you wait in anticipation. The Forest seems to debate your offer with rustling leaves and whispering voices. Your group grows anxious and the Archers hands start to tremble.
Finally the scattered voices of the Forest call out again: „We accept your offer“
„You do?“ Your group asks as one.
„We do indeed“ They confirm in what sounds like a mocking tone, „Lay the walnuts on the ground before you.“
The Archer does as he was told and between the fallen leaves a vine reaches out and encircles the nuts, slowly dragging them away.
Behind you the trees and bushes groan and shiver as they step aside to create a path. You stand in awe of this display of powers, until the Mage calls out: „And what about the flowers?“
„You will find them in the Mountains, that is all we can tell“, the voices answer.
You nod in agreement and thanks and make your way through the Forest. Soon you find yourself on the road you had left earlier, just a bit further down towards the Mountain.

Ein Angebot, das du nicht ablehnen kannst

Der Schütze bedeutet dem Krieger und dem Dieb ihre Axt und Feuersteine wegzupacken und spricht dann laut: „Wir wollen euch nichts zuleide tun!“
Er setzt seinen Rucksack ab und wühlt in dessen Inhalt herum. Endlich erhebt er sich wieder und hält seine Hände hoch. Auf seinen offenen Handflächen liegen ein paar Walnüsse.
„Diese Walnüsse stammen von einem mächtigen Baum in meinem Heimatdorf, weit hinter der Grenze. Ich sammelte sie als Erinnerung an das, was ich zurücklassen würde, als ich zuletzt unter seinen Ästen gerastet habe. Ich biete sie als Opfer an Euch, um uns hier herauszuführen und uns zu sagen, wo wir die Mitternachtsmondblumen finden“, erklärt er laut.
„Natürlich akzeptieren sie ein paar mickrige Walnüsse als Opfer…“, spottet der Dieb sarkastisch.
Alles ist ruhig für einen Moment und harrt in Erwartung. Der Wald scheint euer Angebot mit Blätterrauschen und flüsternde Stimmen abzuwägen. Deine Gruppe wird unruhig und die Hände des Schützen fangen an zu zittern.
Endlich sprechen die verstreuten Stimmen des Waldes erneut: „Wir akzeptieren euer Opfer“
„Wirklich?“, fragt deine Gruppe gleichzeitig.
„Das tun wir tatsächlich“, bestätigen sie in einem spöttisch klingenden Tonfall, „Leg‘ die Walnüsse auf den Boden vor dich.“
Der Schütze tut wie ihm geheißen und zwischen den gefallenen Blättern greift eine Ranke heraus, die sich um die Nüsse legt und sie langsam davonzieht.
Hinter euch ächzen und zittern die Bäume und Büsche als sie einen Schritt zur Seite machen um einen Pfad zu schaffen. Ihr blickt mit Staunen auf das Schauspiel von Macht bis der Zauberer ausruft: „Und was ist mit den Blumen?“
„Ihr werdet sie in den Bergen finden, das ist alles was wir euch sagen können“, teilen euch die Stimmen mit.
Ihr nickt zustimmend und dankend und macht euch auf den Weg durch den Wald. Bald findet ihr euch auf dem Weg von zuvor, nur ein bisschen dichter an den Bergen.
